My achievement this year.

I flied a lot...and still will be flying this year. No time to use milage!!

人の話を聞ける人

人の話を聞くのが上手な人は、本当に少ないと思う。私も人の話をなかなか上手に聞けないけど。回りの人を見ていて、周囲の人から信頼がある人は、年齢に関わらず自分とは違った意見や視野を受け入れる、本当に素直に「聞く」ことが出来る人だと思う。世の中人の話を聞けない人は結構多くて、年をとればとるほど自分の考えや選択が正しいという思い（込み）も強くなり、かたくなに自分の意見を教え解く人が多くなるように思う。本当にその人が正しいとしても、そういう話し方だと相手の心に届かない。（彼/彼女は自分が分かっている、っていう権威や経験を自慢したいだけなんじゃないか）と捉えられてしまったり、（自分の意見はどうでもいいと思われている）と感じたりするからだと思う。

私が知っている聞き上手の人は、絶対に相手の意見を否定しない。どんなにバカな意見でも真剣に最後まで聞いてくれる。そして極め付けには、その人のレベルに合わせた適切なアドバイスをしてあげる。「お前はそんなんだから馬鹿なんだ」という短絡的結論は導き出さず、うまい具合に、話し相手をやる気にさせる。全員周りにいる人がこんな道徳のある人だったらそれはそれで気持ちが悪いけど、（笑）多くの人がそのプロセスを嫌がる中で、本当に話を聞いてくれる人は、それだけで神様のように思えてくるものだなぁと。

世の中本当に相手の気持ちを思いやって、話を聞いてあげることのできる人ってそうそういなくて、それって本当にコミュニケーションの技術だなあと最近強く思うのでした。

Autumn..

Already Halloween season, what am I going to be this year? This week I think I am just tired from the long trip and also the excitement from engagement have been distracting my daily life! hahaha. I need to concentrate more next week.... Going to baby shower this weekend, help Brian move into a new office space! It's getting cooler and cooler, summer is over.

すっかり秋

朝焼け。NYも気温が下がり始めて秋を感じます。今回もひどい時差ぼけはないけど、夜9時ぐらいになると眠くなり、、気がつくと寝ています。みんなに結婚式どうするの？と聞かれるので頭を悩ませています。高いよ結婚式。

Engagement!

まさかブログでこういうことを書くとは思いもしませんでしたが、インターネットの時代情報が回るのが早いもので、いつも読んでくれている皆様に嬉しいご報告です。NYにはおととい帰って来たのですが、帰って来た日にプロポーズされました。（拍手）帰って来たその日にサプライズで、いつもいくピクニックの場所にニコと連れてってくれて、あら、びっくり。秋の良い日でした。

ほらね、どんぐりも落ちるようになった。

ちょうど、付き合って５周年だったのです。指輪ももらって、明日リサイズしに行きます。NYにいるアーティストが作ってる指輪で、パーソナルに思いを込めて作ってもらえると思うと嬉しいです。いやぁ、こういう書き込みは照れるなぁ。この５年間ブライアンと、色々な友達にお世話になりました、みんな有り難う。まだあんまり実感湧かないんだけど、自分の家族が増えると思うと、嬉しいです。これからもよろしく。

A happy news! As soon as I came back from Asia trip, Brian took me out for a surprise picnic. It was our 5th year anniversary and he popped the question! I said YES!! of course. It was such a nice fall day outside and Nico was with us and it was a perfect romantic location. I am really excited! the ring was made by this local NYC artist and Brian talked to her many times to pick it, I am impressed!! Going to see her tomorrow to resize it, how exciting! Unreal to have a big ring on my finger....

As soon as our friends got the news, they got together and celebrated for us on the night at the bar, what a good friends~!! and I got a lot of warm messages, really overwhelming but feel really warm. The occasion makes me realize how much love we have all around from friends and family. Thanks guys! Also I get a question about wedding, but you know! it just happened and we have to decide a lot of things now :) 

On the way home!

I am finally coming home after 3 weeks of traveling! I don't think I have been away from home for this long since college. It was such a nice experience to go visit different country, still exhausting on business but exciting! It seems that Autumn came while I was on the trip. Tokyo has been getting cooler and the air tells me this summer is ending. It's the end of September so I guess it's about time! I have had so much good food, good conversations, but missed NYC a lot this time. Yesterday I saw this ad on the train about NYC and it was such a strange feeling to see the familiar street on the Tokyo subway.

ようやく出張も終わり、現在＠成田です。秋ですねえ。すっかり涼しくなってしまい、出張中に夏が気が付いたら終わってしまったっていう感じです。3週間も家を離れて旅行は大学時代ぶり、やっぱりホテル暮らしは大変だし寂しいけど充実した出張でした。又アジアに来れるといいな。実際に人を見て現地を肌で感じるのは、本やインターネットで得るものとは格段に質が違う。（当たり前ですが。）行動することの大事さを改めて思いました。「行動しないと腐る！」って大好きな人が言ってたっけ。

This blog has been turning into food blog! haha. I am not that foodie but great thing about business trip is bosses take us around for good food! This is "Omotenashi". Japanese hospitality spirit! I had a chance to eat all kinds of good food on the trip as you can see in the photos and I wonder if i gained weight!? I don't want to know so I don't use scale. Japanese food is very delicate, most of the time healthy and deliciocus! The photo below was at Japanese very nice restaurant and you see how beautiful those little foods are!? 

フードブログと化していますが。出張中はみなさんがおいしいところに連れて行ってくれるのが、最高なところです。（笑）私は全然食べ物にそこまでこだわりがないのですが、やっぱり年をとるとおいしいものにありがたみを感じます。あと日本の料理は本当に見た目もきれい。器も、形も、見てるだけでわくわくするような。季節を感じられるこんなご飯は日本ならではだなぁと。栗ご飯とか食べちゃって、すごい贅沢させてもらいました。いやぁ。それにしても寝不足、どうして日本に来ると毎日飲んじゃうんだろう。遺伝？

満員電車乗ってがんばってます。
執行役員とご飯食べに行って、お車来ましたが、後方座席に見知らぬ顔をして乗るという大無礼をかましました。そんなルールアメリカにないし、、そんとき注意してくれ！！アメリカショットガンみんな好きだよね？？まあ、そんなずうずうしい女子に、執行役員はきれてなかったと思いますが、日本の文化をきちんと学ぶ義務が私にはあります。ごめんなさい。（謝るのも日本流）

何度帰ってきても。

何度帰ってきても何度会っても、帰ってきて良かったと思える友達との時間が
一番癒されます。
アホな過去も笑ってくれて、どうしようもない自分も許してくれて、何度も同じ昔話をして
自分の年も忘れて、どこに住んでいるかも関係なく
楽しい話をいつまでも

そんないつでも会える友達、時間を経ても、距離を経ても、温かい友情を共有できる人がいることを熱く思い、感謝します。

くだらない悩みも友達と話しているとどうでもよく思えて、自分が世界で百万力に思えて、
どこにいても、何をしていても、一瞬で繋がれる友達は、一生でかけがえのない存在です。


電車に乗ると、鼻くそほじってる小学生や、化粧してる高校生が、「若いなあ」と思える年になってきたけど。これからも自分が日本を背負ってるんだと威張って頑張りたいです。


何があっても、たとえ自分が間違えていても友達でいてくれる人がいるというのは幸せだなと、つくづく思った日なのでした。私も、いつもその友達が困った時、悩んだ時、嬉しい時、栄えるとき、できるだけたくさんの時間を共有したいと、強く思ったのでした。

Weekend in Japan

Visited my friend who lives in Roppongi. Actually I have never walk around that area. It was quiet area. Quite exciting to visit friends who live by themselves. Since I left Japan when I was in high school, I never had opportunities like that you know? Hanging out at friends house in Tokyo is cool. I really like it! My friend's boyfriend cooked great dinner and I spent a night.

Their house was very close to the art museum and they had Man Ray exbition going on so I stopped by. I don't go to museum too often but about this exbition I heard about it here and there and thought maybe it means I should stop by! I didn't know he was from Philly and also lived in Brooklyn New York, I felt somewhat... closer to him when I read that part. Like, a neighbour!

Tokyo is very very hot today, hotter than HK or Singapore. Afraid of going out but I am leaving soon to go some shopping and get things done! Thinking to relax this weekend since I had almost no break past 2 weeks...

Lucky Lucky

Last days in Singapore got really hot and the city was getting ready for the muslim new year. China town was decorated beautifuly! We found this restaurant which was full of people (That's always the way to pick restaurant)　They are local restaurant run by I guess family. They spoke little English but we managed to order food, actually the owner was nice to recommend us a lot of us... I ended up eating so much food for lunch and thought I'd pass out from eating too much.

最後のシンガポールは暑くって、「これが本当の　シンガポールか」って感じ。アジアのハワイでしたねえ。ココナッツは道路の両際に生えてるし、仕事に来てるのか、休暇に来てるのか分からなくなる時もありました。（笑）それにしても私は軽装でしたが、上司はスーツ。あつそ～！シンガポール人は軽装ですが。チャイナタウンは中秋の名月モードで、飾りがきれいでした。お昼に、混んでるレストランというか定食屋に入り、四苦八苦してオーダー。チャイニーズっていってもさっぱり系のチャイニーズでおいしぃ。

We ordered way too much... Everyone was so full and had to skip the dinner that night lol.This restaurant was called "Lucky Lucky" thought it was funny but a good name. I felt like I got a luck afterwards! haha.

I like these local feeling restaurant.  Very cheap too. Around the hotel they rip off but here you pay like $3-5 and eat till you die.

結構日本のご飯っぽいのもあり。上はまるで鍋。スープもおいしい。魚まるごと、贅沢です。しいたけや白菜、豆腐、豚肉、いや、鍋だよね～。パクチー入ってたのが日本じゃないけど。非常に薄味で、健康的でした。店の名前も、「幸福レストラン」てなわけで、運もばっちりつけました。こんなおいしいシンガポールも今日去り、先ほど東京に来ました。思っていたより、涼しい。

Singapore with good food

So far I quite like Singapore. Food is great, above is my favorite lunch spot now near the financial district. They have many many local food vendors and food are very cheap, around $3! I wish I had more stomachs to stock all these food.

シンガポールご飯おいしい～！安い～！上は金融街の近くにある、フードコート。ローカルのベンダーたくさん、安いご飯たくさん、太って帰ることになりそうです。この後東京だしなぁ。やっぱりアジアご飯はおいしいなぁ。

This view is actually from our office in Singapore. Doesn't it look like Asian Amsterdam?? They have many restaurants along the river and totally reminds me of Europe.

This was Srilanka crab I had for dinner with curry sauce. Donut comes with this dish and you dip it and eat with crab. Awww very delicious as it looks.

夜ご飯はシーフードを食べに！！スリランカ蟹　in カレーみたいなソース、美味。うぅ。おいしぃ。

Desset was this frog's fat. lol supposed to be good for your skin. It was actually taste very smooth and didn't taste like anything!

蛙の脂肪と卵管がデザートでした。おいしかったよ。お肌つるつるになるかな。上司にもっとおでこ光ったらどうするのって言われた、ひどいよね！。笑

Singapore with Maaaaa Lion

@ Singapore. First official day off during my business trip. Luckily my friend from high school lives here and I asked her to hang out with me. She took me to wonderful afternoon tea, (which was first for me!) and booked a massage session for me and also went to a bar with marvelous view with Malion. I almost felt like I already enjoyed Singapore... the weather is really nice, mild temp. I swear Japan is hotter. Tomorrow is Monday again, I start working...! Ha, singapore. It feels like a mellower city than HK, city is very modern and new and clean. I heard they don't sell chewing gums... very extreme!

シンガポールです！ようやく初のほっとできる日曜日。高校時代の友達が住んでいることを聞きつけ、早速会いました。「リラックスシンガポール」というリクエストをしておいたのですが、なんともまったりと素敵なアフタヌーンティー、マッサージ　そして夜景のとびっきりきれいなバーへ連れてってもらったあげく、マーライオンと写真撮影。すっかりシンガポールを満喫した気分になりました。ありがとうNちゃん。やっぱりローカルに友達がいると違います。これでリフレッシュして明日から又仕事です！シンガポールはHKより少しゆったりした感じで、今のところ、好感です。今月は、今週末にムスリムの正月、月末にF1があるらしく、街が賑やかです。

Ok, so I thought Malion is just a small statue but actually it is very huge! Also I liked that you can really get to close and even feel the water splashing! Very beautiful at night... I also loved the new hotel with the ship thing on top of it. I hope I will have enough time to go there...

マーライオンが予想以上に大きくて感動しました。まーちゃんよ。出張がうまくいくように祈っていてくれ。

Last day in HK

香港も最後の日になりました。今回は出張できているので、ぶらぶらする時間は全然ないのですが、日中のミーティングをはしごするときにちらっと見かける風景を写真にとっています。上司と歩いているので、iphoneでこそこそ（ともしてないか、、）とってます。iphone4結構写真きれいにとれますでしょ？香港はやっぱりなんかこの古い住宅建築が香港っぽさを感じさせます。

訪問先は大体金融機関なので、新しいビルばかりで東京やNYと変わらない。やっぱりダウンタウン？というか庶民がいるところの方が、その国らしさがあって良いです。それにしても、香港の色々な人にインタビューして本当に世界はグローバル化していることを実感しました。たくさんの欧州の人がアジアに事業や人材を動かしていたり、多くのアジア人女性が欧米機関の管理職についていたり、若いアジア人も欧米機関で活躍している姿、競合他社も国内から海外へ事業拡大の努力を行っている話など、やはりNYからは見えない生の情報が色々ありました。本当にアジア（日本、香港、シンガポール、台湾、韓国、オーストラリア、インド、中国、フィリピン、ベトナム、、、、、）「アジア」ではくくれない、というのが今回骨身にしみて感じた。

国の歴史、価値観、成り行き、希望、目指すところ、慣習、法制度など、グローバル化が進行すればするほど、「ローカル化」の大切さを実感します。ローカルに根付くにはローカルの文化を理解すること。シンプルで当たり前のような事ですが、これはやはりそこに住んでそこのものを食べて、そこの友達を作って、そこの景色を見てしか身につけられない感覚や、考え方というものがあるんだということを久しぶりの海外で再認識しました。特に「グローバル化」を勘違いしてローカル性をないがしろにするビジネスモデルはある程度までしか伸びず、また欧米の「錯覚」というか思いこみ、が終わりアジアへの実権が徐々に移っていっていることを肌で感じました。

それにしても食べ物は安くておいしかったです。中華料理とは一言でいってもたくさんあるんだなぁと。立ち粥屋とか見かけて面白かったです。久しぶりの海外文化で、米国との比較もできて勉強になることがたくさんあった1週間でした。明日は香港を去り、シンガポールに移動します。

I am in HK! Modern Part

I am now in HK, my 3rd day. Finally started understanding way around this city. I have visited here when I was in high school but forgot what it was like. Though it feels a lot modern and international than I remember. Well I am on business trip so I visit many international financial institutions but still, most part of the city looks almost like tokyo. They have cafes like above which feels like New York! More international than Tokyo though...

 There are many new buildings and it does look like New York or Yokohama, bay area of big city. Trains are really clean and convenient, very modern...  so much cleaner than NYC for sure. Although cab drivers don't speak much English so I have to always carry around Chinese address with me so they know. Once they didn't understand the location in English (although I showed them detailed google map!) They had to call a friend who speaks English.. and I had to tell them where I wanted to go. I wish I understand Cantonese. 

It seems like the city is full of young people, at work place too, I wonder if Japan is really aging society and that's why how I feel it. Above photo is the sign saying SALE -65% UP. interesting... I don't have time to hang out in the city besides strolling to next meeting but still find fascinating to see small differences of cultures like this. It's always fun to see different values and cultures! Meeting executives from financial institutions but I definitely feel Asia is very diverse (HK, Taiwan, Korea, China, India, Australia) and I even feel odd to group Asia as Asia now. Each country is very very unique, has very different values, laws, languages.... amazed how diverse Asia is. This is something I cannot feel unless I am actually at the place, so I am happy to be able to feel that with my heart. People are very energetic, optimistic about Asia's future and It is going to be really intriguing to see the growth next coming years.

There are 7 elevens everywhere but smaller version of it compare to Japan. They sell Japanese magazine, don't even translate it. Also they sell many different kinds of milk and soy milk it seems... interesting.
