NYの地下鉄は、最近ガソリンが高騰しているせいで異様に混んでいます。日本のように、満員電車に慣れていないアメリカ人は、電車の奥にもつめないし、ホームも狭く設計されているので、たまに人がホームから落ちそうになるくらい溢れていて、「大丈夫なの！？」と思ってしまいます。電車にのったらのったで、日本と違うのはみんな声に出して文句を言うこと。「もっと奥につめなきゃのれないでしょ！」とかメッチャ混んでるのに、「触らないでよ！」みたいな・・。電車の中もつかまるところが少ないので、みんな中央のポールにがしっと掴まる訳ですが、今日は乗った電車で隣に立っていた黒人のおばちゃんが・・「全く、ワキガ臭いんだから。デオドラントぐらいつけてほしいわよね！」とか大声で言い始める訳です。最初はみんなムシしてたんですけど、段々エスカレートしてきて、「猿みたいな匂いがすんのよ！しらんふりしてるけど、そこの坊やよ！」と目の前に立っている白人男性にケンカを売り始めました・・。男性は「ハ？ナンダヨ？」みたいにキレはじめてたところで私の降りる駅に・・。おばちゃんこわいよ・・。巻き込まれなくてよかった。
Gas price is driving people to get on subway more and more in New York City and it is ridiculous these days how crowded the subway is. Unlike Japan, people are not so used to be in the crowded subway and people start complaining in loud voices…”Don’t touch me!” “Can you walk in more so people can get on?” in angry tone of voice. Today this black middle age woman was standing next to me and started complaining, “Ah, somebody needs to use deodorant, this person does not know manner in the subway” etc. At first people were ignoring her comments but she kept complaining and finally she said, “ It smells like APE!!! You, standing over there, it’s you!” and she pointed the white boy standing across from her. The dude got upset of course and gave her glare and “WHAT!?”…. and I had to get off the subway. I’m so glad I wasn’t involved….ah, middle age women are scary universally.
